Why You’ll Love These Earl Grey Cookies:
Unique flavour – Hints of bergamot and black tea give a cozy, floral twist.
Soft and chewy – With a lightly crisp edge and melt-in-your-mouth texture.
Minimal ingredients – Pantry staples elevated with one special ingredient.
Tea time ready – Ideal for dunking or pairing with your afternoon brew.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (200g) granulated white sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 2 3/4 cup (345g) all purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tea bags of earl grey tea
- Extra granulated sugar, for rolling
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream butter, sugar, and tea together in a large bowl for 2–3 minutes until light and fragrant.
- Add the egg and vanilla, mixing until fully incorporated.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Scoop the dough with a spoon and roll into balls, and roll in extra sugar. Place 2 inches apart on the prepared sheets. Slightly flatten the tops on the balls on the sheet before baking, this will help give the perfect shape.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are just golden. Let cool for 5 minutes on the pan before transferring to a wire rack.
Pro Tips:
- Use very soft butter! Making sure your butter is super soft, as this will make it easier to cream together with the sugar, and give the best texture to these cookies.
- Add a glaze: Mix powdered sugar with a splash of milk and vanilla for a simple glaze drizzle.
- Citrus boost: Add a bit of lemon or orange zest to accent the bergamot in the tea.
Earl Grey Sugar Cookies are the kind of treat that feel both nostalgic and elevated. Perfect for sharing at a tea party or keeping in a jar for your own daily ritual. Try them once, and they might just become your new favourite cookie.
