Homemade Pistachio Barfi

 Homemade Pistachio Barfi

There’s something magical about the creamy richness of pistachios blended with milk and sugar, setting into delicate squares of barfi. It’s a sweet that feels both luxurious and comforting—perfect for festive occasions, celebrations, or simply treating yourself on an ordinary day.

In this post, I’m sharing a simple recipe for pistachio barfi (also called pista barfi) that uses just a few ingredients but delivers that signature melt-in-the-mouth texture and nutty aroma we all love.

It is truly hard to choose which type of barfi is better, the coconut barfi or the pistachio barfi, but you guys have to give this a try and decide for yourselves. I am tied!

What is Pistachio Barfi?

Barfi is a classic Indian sweet, traditionally made from milk solids (khoya or mawa), sugar, and flavourings. Pista barfi swaps in pistachios as the main hero, giving the sweet its stunning green hue, creamy consistency, and nutty warmth.

Ingredients:

  • 150g milk powder
  • 80g pistachio crushed finely
  • 1/2 tsp cardamon powder (optional)
  • 1 tin of condensed milk (397g)
  • Rose petals for topping (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prep the pan: Grease a small square tray or plate with ghee and keep it ready.
  2. Cook the mixture:In a non-stick pan over low-medium heat, add the pistachio, milk powder, and condensed milk. Mix well.
  3. Add flavour: Stir continuously for 6–8 minutes until the mixture thickens and starts leaving the sides of the pan. Add cardamom powder and mix well.
  4. Set the barfi: Quickly transfer the mixture into the greased tray. Spread evenly with a spatula and smooth out the surface.
  5. Garnish and cool: Top with rose petals if using. Let it cool for 30 minutes or refrigerate for faster setting.
  6. Cut and serve: Slice into squares or diamonds and enjoy!

Pistachio barfi is rich, flavourful, and a showstopper at any dessert table. It’s also naturally gluten-free and eggless.

Whether it’s Diwali, Eid, a wedding, or a cozy weekend at home—this is the kind of sweet that makes memories.
